But at the time, we didn’t think it was happening to Germans.
she could have added “after all, we’re white, we’re westerners, we thought that this sort of thing only applied to people of colour”.
the thing is, fascism is colonialism applied to white people in the colonial powers. that’s why to some people it’s so revolting, at least when compared to military thugs torturing and disappearing people in poor countries; no, that’s expected from them.
I’m excited to see the US cut itself off from tourism.
This article leaves out the part where these 2 people were attempting to enter the US on a tourist visa but admitted they intended to work and they had no accommodation organised.
The denial of entry sounds justified and the fact that this article leaves out the part where they intended to work… Seems a bit disingenuous.
From what I’ve seen that did not book ask the hotels because they wanted to travel spontaneously in the country like they did in the other countries they visited.
It’s the customs that assumed that they didn’t book hotel because they were intending to work.
Interesting choice of words there with “justified”. Not “legal” or “expected” but “justified”. Meanwhile, every American ever thinks they can move wherever the fuck they want but let’s pretend that other people thinking that is somehow “unjustified”.
You speak for all Americans?
Question unclear. Are you asking if I’m painting all Americans with the same brush? Or are you asking whether my rejection of “justified” is representative of the morals of all Americans?
And that’s nothing new. I had friends denied entry for something similar about 20 years ago

Sorry, can you point to the source that they said they intended to work?
Here is an article that mentions it but I couldn’t find a specific source. It was also mentioned in the first article I saw posted on Lemmy regarding this.
