Brexit promised the UK a golden era of global trade deals. But five years later, where are they? In this video, we break down the trade agreements Britain secured post-Brexit—what worked, what flopped, and why the U.S. deal remains elusive. From the CPTPP to failed talks with India and Canada, we explore how the UK’s biggest economic gamble turned into a global balancing act. Was it worth it?
Who would have thought medieval thinking and isolationist policy would hurt trade?
Unfortunately only 48% of us ;-;
Nah that’s not fair. The misinformation campaign was huge. On all platforms, IRL advertisements and all over the mainstream media. It’s so hard not to fall for misinformation especially if it confirms biases already present.
A lot of people didn’t even know what they were voting on. It’s disgusting the way it went down and hard not to hold the people who voted a certain way responsible.
But I mostly blame the corrupt politicians and the massive misinformation campaign, partially funded and run by Russia. Like how do you go from a non-binding referendum to brexit? It makes no sense. Those assholes who went like “The people have spoken” should be shot for their crimes.
Ever since brexit you see right politicians push for more referendums all over Europe. It’s so easy to influence people to vote a certain way. And with a referendum you can point to the people who have voted, so it all looks above board.
To be fair, there was enough information correcting that misinformation that you would have known what was real and fake if you had any inclination to find out.
Misinformation was definitely a problem, but racism is a bigger problem that was exploited.
Yep. Racists are weak in ways that aren’t talked about enough. Racism is a tear in the social fabric itself.
Brexit is a prelude to the coming US isolationism
This is a thing to be judged in decades. It was GB’s policy to never allow for a united power on the continent. Britain’s retreat from the EU implies that they are sure of European decline or fear the domination by Brussels even more.
No, it implied that people are stupid.
Even the ministers that organized the shit show didn’t wanted it, didn’t believe in it and didn’t believe that people would be stupid enough to believe their lies and go for it, and then… Then the handling of that shit show was possibly even worse, and Well, here we are.
Brexit literally was a master class in generalized stupidity and it’s kinda still ongoing
British newspapers regularly reported how stupid the EU is. Unlike other countries, they made sure that the population was on the edge of EU acceptance. Everybody pretening that Brexit was just stupidity allows the EU to avoid the debate about whatever was the major political difference that led to the separation.
