I would say the guy clearly doesn’t understand the most basic concepts of fiction, except I suspect he probably does but is ignoring them in order to push his agenda.

That was the opposite of nuance. It was pedantry that deliberately missed the point.

Basically the US was the worlds police until recently.

For the most part, only they saw it that way. The very fact that America refuses to recognize the ICC tells you everything you need to know about how good faith their “world policing” actually is.

What they’ve actually got a history of doing is describing foreign incursions to protect their own economic interests as “police actions” rather than formal declarations of war, in order to ignore various laws and international conventions. America has not been the good guy since 1945.

Yeah it’s just so nakedly transparent how dishonest their posturing is about Europe not doing enough on defense.

Turns out what they actually meant was “our entire economic system is predicated on infinite unending YoY growth targets, and we’ve run of ways to grow, so now you all have to start spending more money on feeding this fucking beast we created”.

Also this theme of “how dare you take advantage of us all these years” is exactly the kind of talk domestic abusers use.

When an influential group of powerful people make hate speech a part of their standard rhetoric, is EXACTLY when you MUST block it on your platform, not a signal that it’s time to start letting it slide, you fucking pricks.

I guess not so much in the grander scheme of things, but it’s astonishing and depressing in equal measures that Britain doesn’t seem able to have kept hold of any of its own beloved home-grown brands.

It’s distressing how many British sweet brands now have a chain of ownership leading to the US. Mondelez famously bought Cadbury’s, and Bain Capital (y’know, Mitt Romney’s company) own most of the “classics” like Barratts, Fox’s Glacier Mints, Poppets, Tavener’s, Mojo chews, Barker & Dobson etc. The only big non-American company left is Nestle, and they can also fuck wayyyyy off.

It’s only Terry’s and Tunnocks left now, and even then Terry’s are owned by the Fr*nch.
