  • It’s all relative. If i sit a few meters away from a 50 inch screen, then it’s roughly the same size as a phone screen held 30cm from my face. It’s just a matter of perspective.

The level of detail i can see is the same. My fancy earbuds make the sound quality essentially the same if not better.

The only real difference is i have to hold the phone to watch it.

Well, most people… not me, I have a folding phone with a stand, so for me, i can comfortably put the phone on a table on the stand that’s built into the case and watch from there. Works just fine.

  • Absolutely fair. An 8 year old game should not cost $90 all in.

I dont dispute that. I just think the article is misleading as there is a lot of talk about $90 switch 2 games, which turned out not to be true, and it creates anger that is misplaced. Even if the reality isn’t far from that lie.

I do, however, think it’s an interesting thought experiment to come at it from another angle.

Imagine the article was “8 year old AAA game and DLC at a huge discount” and the article said things like:

    • breath of the wild was ahead of its time on release
    • the graphics still look great thanks to the cell shading and art style
    • unique gameplay elements and a modern feeling combat system
    • vast open world with expansive storyline
    • on par with modern games
    • currently only $50 on this deal, a bargain considering everything you get for that price

From this point of view i think you would agree that anyone would argue its worth more than $50 and that its a great deal despite being 8 years old.

Nintendo games should definitely come down in price over time, but the point is its just so easy to spin something however you want if you use the right words.

  • Title is a bit misleading

There are a few scenarios here.

    1. You own the game on switch and already have the dlc so pay nothing unless you want to pay $10 or have the switch online subscription for the switch 2 edition if you want the enhancements. For a total of $0-10 depending on your choice

    2. You own the game but dont have the dlc so pay $20 for that and then $10 for the switch 2 version unless you have the subscription for a total of $20-30 depending on your choice.

    3. You dont own the game so you buy the switch 2 version for $70 and the dlc for $20 for a total of $90.

This is not the same as the $90 game lie thats being told, but it is painted that way. To get clicks.

Paying $70 for a game and then paying more for an expansion is nothing even close to new. For example, Destiny 2 is free but if you want the DLC its gonna cost you between $150 and $270 depending on when you buy it as there are sometimes deals on.

  • In fact. I dont care if you realise it or not. I dont need your validation. Im in my 30s. I’m nearly 40. i have been gaming since the sega master system. That’s fairly early doors for gaming. Its super early for console gaming. I know what i am talking about, i have been alive for long enough and paid for enough games to know what i am talking about.

The fact that you are just going to downvote me and offer absolutely nothing to counter my argument is enough for me to know you are EITHER too young to k ow about any of this, or being purposfully ignorant to jump on the rage wagon.

The fact you automatically think i am schilling for nintendo because my argument passively defends them (its actually an argument defending all game pricing) is just evidence of your immaturity.

    Grow up, eh?

  • I guess it is. But why pretend this is something new? Games have always been expensive. Ps1 games were between 40 and 60 dollars when they came out. That’s almost 110 dollars accounting for inflation on about 50 dollars then.

The ps1 itself would cost almost 800 dollars today, accounting for inflation.

Game prices haven’t really followed along with inflation. The 60 dollar game has been a thing since i was a child in the 90s.

I agree that perhaps 80 dollars is a lot for a game, and maybe they should be priced lower than 1 quarter the cost of the console, but thats a different argument.

What i am saying, again, is this is nothing new, and i think this outrage is symptomatic of “short-term memory loss”.

I wish games were cheaper. But ragging on nintendo for charging less than they used to for n64 games (when accounting for inflation) and selling a console that plays ps5 games for less than a ps5. Is a bit strange. I also think the portability of the switch is something neither of the big 2 have. The playstation portal is half the cost of a ps5 and has to be on the same wifi as the ps5.

I just dont see why people think this is so egregious.

  • Ok. Let’s not misrepresent what i said.

Firstly, you dont round up 4.17 to 5.

Second. I said i am in the UK, so i dont bay any dollars a month.

Third, I pay for 1 quarter of £5 a month, which is the monthly cost of a family account. Which i said i have. So it’s actually £1.25 ($1.64) a month.

Forth, The games that come with the expansio are not 40 years old.the expansion gives you the n64, gameboy advance and genesis games, which are 28, 23 and 35 years old respectively.

Fifth, as well that i get 48 mario kart maps, as well ss some other games. On top of the online play which you get in the standard pack, and some other bits.

Sixth, i have played and completed mario 64 and bajo kazooie on the n64 emulator. I have introduced my son to mario kart 64 as well. I also am slowly working my way through jet force gemini. I have complete goldeneye played multiplayer with my brothers here and there and am working through perfect dark. On the GBA emulator i am playing golden sun. 10 hours is a severe underestimate for all that and more.

Finally. If you are salty about BOTW, then thats your problem. But dont go around lying about what i said to make yourself feel better.
