What about if the text on an image is factual but the accompanying stock photography is just an AI generated one? what’s the harm and/or who cares?

oh why?
damnit you got me, i actually did read it afterwards and realised my comment was wrong but then just left it as it has 9 updoots
hell yeah! rest in hell
but tbh it’s not, old people love it
My comments are mainly based on this: https://geekdom.social/@jospoortvliet/113866519934816580
which is in response to
“There are no known credible offerings from European providers,” reads an internal Commission document seen by Euractiv.
Which Nextcloud are saying is the result of lobbying from Microsoft
I guess my real question is, how will this beat the millions of dollars Microsoft, Google etc spend lobbying EU lawmakers?
Is there any step in the process where this is outlawed or this practice is limited?
The other thing is that he’ll likely just make himself unhappy and end up going back to what he was doing before but if he was just doing something ridiculous to make an article then job done I guess?
tbh probably should have just linked straight to the source release, my bad
Commission rolls out plan to boost circular and efficient products in the EU
In addition, the Commission will introduce horizontal measures to requirements on repairability for products such as consumer electronics and small household appliances. This will include the introduction of a repairability score for products with the most potential, and requirements on recyclability of electrical and electronic equipment.

How does bluesky make money?
Scientists have estimated that the power requirements of data centers in North America increased from 2,688 megawatts at the end of 2022 to 5,341 megawatts at the end of 2023, partly driven by the demands of generative AI
5341 Megawatt = 5.341 Gigawatt
so a 2.6 GW increase, jeez that’s a fair amount
The US set a record by adding 50 GW of new solar capacity in 2024, with solar and storage making up 84% of new capacity.
Global renewable power capacity increased by 585 GW in a single year
noo the joke was he was supposed to reply
"you're welcome my dude"
thanks, you’re clearly a genius, these LLM providers should pay you a lot of money to implement this, you’d save them millions 🙄

Are you confusing LLM’s for a car?
tbf to the US they fund an absolute ton of things, eg. I didn’t realise they helped fund lets encrypt and now the CVE database either, I assume it’ll be a drip feed of things being cancelled slowly over time as they find them all
How would you filter it?
everything the US gov helps funds now has a question mark over whether it’ll still be here in 4 years…
All 10 users of mastodon are so upset right now
