I’ve never seen belittling people get them to change their minds, but I have seen conservative attempt it hundreds of times.

Spoiler: I see the left doing it all the time as well. Shit, I see vegans trying it too.

      It never works.

I belittle conservatives for my own enjoyment, and to laugh at them with my peers. I gave up on changing minds when I gave up on changing my dads, and that was 15 years ago at least (was a gradual decline, not sure when I actually gave up).

I mean, yeah, you can totally give up on changing minds and write conservatives off if you want. That’s definitely a choice that you can make. And sure, no one is responsible for doing the emotional labor that it takes to change minds.

But if you don’t, will anyone?

I would rather have conversations aimed at changing minds than write people off.

I hope someone will. I hope you do! To be honest, I think I’m too angry to have conversations that might change a mind anymore. Like, I’m angry at them for falling for whatever fake news nonsense that they’re all riled up about, and I actually am not mature enough to keep the scorn and contempt out of my voice.

Of course they’re angry too, and so here we are :p
